Listen & look closer
We start here, outside Bath Spa station, on the city side. Turn back towards the stone frontage.
This station was designed by Brunel, dating from around eighteen forty. But those gables and stone windows reach further back in style. Historic England calls it Tudor inspired, like Bristol Temple Meads. A new railway arrived wearing the architectural clothes of an older England. It's quite an entrance.
Notice the height of the railway above the street. The station was planned with platforms at a higher level and passages beneath. The trains and the city don't have to share the same plane. We'll stay on the public forecourt, then leave the railway behind for a much smaller building.
Narration uses a synthetic voice. Places, routes and stories are researched, with sources and photo credits available in each tour.
